The night started off with the sweet sounds of Big Son doing some familiar cover tunes that we could all sing along to. It was a nice way to kick off the Hootenanny while at least 15 people came in with their chili for the Chili Cook-off! Congratulations to Brian, Francine, and Mr. Gray who came out with the winning chili! We’d also like to thank everyone who brought food for the event, it was all delicious and it sure was a tough decision for us to choose a winner. Everyone’s chili was a winner in my book...

Then the young guns of Stonehenge came in and rocked my socks off with some awesome renditions of Voodoo Chile and Moby Dick! Seriously I wasn’t even half as cool as them when I was in 8th grade...hahah... In fact, I couldn’t even play guitar!

Tupelo Tim came up from...well...wherever he’s from and offended hundreds of people. Thanks to Tupelo Tim for MCing the event. Hopefully that case of Schaeffer he drank before his long awaited introduction was enough to keep him going for the whole night...hahaha

After another short set by Big Son, The Embracers came out and played some sweet tunes with a country-esq feel that really added to the atmosphere of the Hootenanny. Those guys are some seriously talented musicians, so if y’all get a chance to see them again, I suggest you get on that ASAP. In fact, we’ll be playing a show with them on May 22nd at Maxwell’s in Hoboken, NJ so we all expect to see some of you there for a great night of great tunes (and pretty cheap drinks for Hoboken).

Congrats to Sammy Rojas for winning our first Pie-Eating contest. And also, apologies to those who thought it would have happened a little earlier on in the night. We got the pies from the Argyle and they were steaming hot at the original time for the contest. We didn’t want anyone with 3rd degree burns on their faces so we thought it would be better to wait. Sorry again for that...
And thanks to everyone who participated in the contest, it was hillarious....

We’d also like to thank Matt Kelly for coming out and making some people laugh with his original comedy routine. I know I was crackin’ up and so was half the Scots Club that evening.

After Matt Kelly, Secret Country came out and rocked for the rest of the night. We pulled out some older cover tunes that we normally don’t have time to play in a shorter set. We were really aiming to make this a true country style Hootenanny, so next year look for some line dancing as well!

Lastly, we’d like to thank everyone who helped us put on the Hootenanny as well as everyone who donated their time, food, prizes, and talents to help us put on one of the better parties this town has seen in quite some time. I’m sure its pretty safe to say that this event will be happening for years to come! And please check out our upcoming shows page to see what we have in store for y’all next. Thanks again and we’ll see you soon!

With Love and Whiskey,
Joe
and Secret Country

So the show this past Friday was definitely a success! Thanks again to Molly Amadeo for asking us to play for such a great cause. It was pretty much a packed house at the LCCC. Crawdaddy played great and it was especially great to meet Artimus Pyle! The original drummer of Lynyrd Skynyrd!!! We got a chance to throw a few beers back with him and talk about what it was like to be a part of Skynyrd in the 70’s. He even talked to us about the infamous plane crash that unfortunately took the lives of some of the original band members. Artimus was one of the few to leave the crash with minor injuries and is one of the main reasons the others that were injured got medical help so quickly. A tragic story, but we got to hear first hand from this Rock n’ Roll legend! Thanks to everyone who came out to see us and Crawdaddy, and supported the fight against Leukemia and Lymphoma. It was truly a night to remember.
